First log in under your name and use the Puzzle
and Guess The Word games. Become familar with the various self help features
(for example rolling over words in the sentences/clues).
Some children will need to repeat the same 20 words in order to become
proficient in reading the words and sentences and matching the clue to the
word. This can be done by always selecting puzzle #1. Here are the steps to
access puzzle #1 words. 1) Log in under your child's name. 2) Click on the
button "Puzzles I've Done, Select A Different Puzzle". This will then display
a menu that allows access to all 100 puzzles. Select puzzle #1. Also, some
children may need more help in becoming familar with the puzzle words and
clues before doing the puzzle game. In that case select the button "Guess
The Word". This will display the clue by itself. If your child cannot
read the sentence, you can demonstrate how the computer will read the word
by rolling the mouse over the word. By clicking on "Show Word" Totally Words
will display and say the word for that clue. Your child may need to play "Guess
The Word" many times (once or twice each day) before being ready to play the
Puzzle game. When he first attempts the puzzle, be on hand to help. Demonstrate
again how the computer will read the clue words when the mouse is rolled over
the words. Also - and this is very important to help your child solve the
puzzle - suggest 1 or 2 words to choose from along with the correct word for
each clue. This will limit the number of choices he has to make in matching
the correct word with its definition, instead of having to choose from all
the words in the puzzle and will facilitate his learning of the words. As
with "Guess The Word" game you should keep using the same 20 words in the
"Puzzle" game by selecting Puzzle #1 until your child can do this puzzle by
himself. Then you can select the "Next Puzzle" button on the main menu. From
this point on Totally Words will monitor your child's progress and intoduce
your child to 4 new words each day in the first 50 puzzles and 7 words in
the second 50 puzzles once he reaches a proficiency level of 85% for each
puzzle. |
